On 7-8 December 2011 International Conference "Mining of marine raw materials – a chance for future generations" was held in Krakow under the auspices of the European Parliament and Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Economy Waldemar Pawlak.
The conference was jointly organized by the AGH of Krakow and our Maritime University of Szczecin represented by the highest authorities: the Rector Prof. Stanislaw Gucma, Master Mariner, Vice Rector, Prof. Wojciech Ślączka, Master Mariner and the Dean of the Faculty of Navigation, Prof. Jerzy Hajduk, Master Mariner.
This was an extraordinary opportunity to start a solid educational, research and promotional activity preparing future generations to use the mineral resources of the seas and oceans.
The conference “Marine mining of raw materials – a chance for future generations” was held in the following thematic sessions:
- Resources of the seas and oceans - the future of raw materials,
- Geology, methodology of exploring sea and ocean beds, documenting and assessing resource deposits,
- Legal issues in marine mining,
- Visions of technology for underwater mining,
- Marine mining - new challenges in terms of navigation, vessel traffic and safety procedures at sea,
- Economic aspects of mineral raw material sourcing from the bottom of the seas and oceans.
39 papers were presented including 12 by researchers from our University.
