It was mysterious with a bit of melancholy ... laughter to tears, a state of slight astonishment and after a moment the extraordinary world of music ... The Choir of the Maritime University of Szczecin is celebrating the 10th anniversary of its existence. They celebrated their birthday during two concerts at the Szczecin Philharmonic.

The first concert, summarizing the ten-year artistic activities of the choir, was held on 16 November 2013. It consisted of two parts, in which the choir performed in beautiful evening - marine outfits. The first part of the concert was full of sacred and folk songs whereas in the second part dominated entertaining, marine, and gospel type of music. The event became a spectacle not only due the music at a very high level, but in part theater - with unusual visual arts and game of highlights creating a very special climate. Interpretation details mastered to perfection, musicality of over sixty choristers, unusual atmosphere caused fully deserved applause and cheers. Great surprises at the concert turned out to be the star guests: Jola Szczepaniak and Beata Dutka, who sang together with the choir, and the Szczecin Young Percussion band. During the concert the band conductor Sylvia Fabiańczyk – Makuch, PhD, was awarded an honorary ‘Merit for Polish Culture’, awarded by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage to the people who in a special way distinguished themselves in the promotion and dissemination of art and culture. Also the choristers were awarded badges of the Polish Union of Choirs and Orchestras. Among the invited guests were: Rector of the Maritime University of Szczecin, Professor Stanislaw Gucma, Vice-Rectors for Education , who so far have ‘looked after’ the choir: Andrzej Stefanowski, PhD, Zbigniew Szozda, PhD, Przemysław Rajewski, PhD, Piotr Treichel and Wojciech Czyzewski – Head of the Foundation of the Maritime University of Szczecin. Among the audience were also Wojciech Drożdż – Vice- Marshall of the West Pomeranian Province, Prof. Ryszard Handke - Rector of the Academy of Arts, the employees of universities and cultural institutions, parliamentarians and representatives of the world of art.

The second concert celebrating the anniversary took place on November 22. This time, the band led by Sylvia Fabiańczyk - Makuch and conducted by Krzesimir Dębski performed film music by the above mentioned Polish composer. The artists presented, among others, songs from the ‘Battle of Warsaw’, ‘Fire and Sword’ and ‘Old fairy tales’. There were plenty of hits such as ‘Song of Helena’ (‘Dumka for two hearts’) and music from the movie ‘In Desert and Wilderness’, which together with the choir was sung by Anna Jurksztowicz. In the concert hall they again ran out of seats, the audience gathered in every free corner of the room. During the concert Krzesimir Dębski repeatedly emphasized his satisfaction at the invitation of the choir, who decided to perform his songs. The Maritime University Choir and invited guests took care of a friendly, sometimes a little less formal atmosphere. Excellent music, full of finesse conduct of the concert by the composer himself and improvised ‘extracurricular’ songs won the hearts of the audience who were not willing to leave the Philharmonic.
