In the period 24-25 November, Student Transport and Logistic Symposium "SeaPoint" 2016 was held for the 10th time at the Faculty of Economics and Transport Engineering. This year the subject was railway transport of passengers and cargo.

There were about 60 event participants from academic centres all around Poland, e.g. from Gdańsk and Gdynia, Krakow, Wałbrzych, Wrocław or Dąbrowa Górnicza. The speakers included members of scientific associations as well as representatives of companies and institutions from transport industry.

The two-day meeting was an opportunity for discussion on the role of railway transport in carrying of passengers and cargo. It was also a possibility for students representing various academic centres to exchange their knowledge and views, to meet the representatives of companies and institutions from transport industry.

- The TFL sector (transport-forwarding-logistics) is very diverse, which is presented during each edition of SeaPoint - says Natalia Sec, the organiser. – Because of our local maritime industry we perceive the railway transport in a different way than our colleagues from other centres. It is because of such different points of view that we are able to learn so much during the symposium. New perspectives and contacts are the greatest assets of the SeaPoint conference - she adds.

The opening ceremony was led by Professor Stanisław Iwan, the Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Transport Engineering. The anniversary of the event is a good moment to sum up the activities so far and distinguish the people who have taken an active part in creation of the SeaPoint history, building the brand of this students’ initiative. Among the distinguished ones there was Natalia Sec, the President of the Students’ Scientific Association of Logistics and Transport, Professor Izabela Kotowska - the former supervisor of the association and Krystian Pietrzak, PhD, Eng., who is currently taking care of it.

SeaPoint is the annual event organised by the Students’ Scientific Association of Logistics and Transport operating at the Faculty of Economics and Transport Engineering of the Maritime University of Szczecin. The first day of the meeting was a classic conference divided into theme panels, whereas the second one was a “field trip” - this year the SeaPoint participants visited the Szczecin Locomotive Depot - Wzgórze Hetmańskie and the Main Railway Station in Szczecin.

This year’s edition was supported by the following partners:

  • the West Pomeranian Maritime Cluster
  • the Maritime University of Szczecin
  • the Szczecin - Świnoujście Seaport
  • Przewozy Regionalne
