New students' oath, university promotions, awards, and a parade are how the Maritime University of Szczecin inaugurated the new academic year. The tribute the day before traditionally preceded the ceremony.
Tribute "To those who did not return from the sea"

Inauguration at the foot of the Chrobry Embankment
The annual meeting of graduates of Szczecin's maritime schools was traditionally held at the memorial stone of the State Maritime School in Szczecin.For the second year in a row, after a several-year gap, the inauguration took place on 5th October at the former location on the banks of the river Oder. The first points of the ceremony were the raising of the national flag and the singing of the national anthem. This was followed by an inaugural speech by the MUS Rector Wojciech Ślączka. He welcomed almost a thousand first-year students to ‘our maritime family’ with words:
By choosing the Maritime University of Szczecin, by choosing Szczecin, you have made a good choice. You will find that our university, one of only two maritime universities in Poland, enjoys a reputation and recognition that stands out at home and abroad. What makes us distinct in a positive way is our maritime traditions. Traditions that we honour and do not forget. Dear first-year students, your choice of university is now behind you. Study and work, not forgetting, of course, to rest, relax, and enjoy the students' life so in the future you will remember this time with fondness.
An important moment for the new students was the taking the oath.
Then it was time for the presentation of state and university awards and distinctions to the University staff and students. Later on, it was the turn of what everyone had been waiting for - a stunning parade along with uniformed and non-uniformed student units preceded by a superb Military Orchestra from Świnoujście and MUS Guard of Honour.
