On 16 - April 17, in Warsaw, the Polish Academic Championships in Rowing Ergo-meter were held with over 550 participants from 40 universities taking part in the competition. As every year, the rowing team of the Maritime University of Szczecin, coached by Wojciech Jaskiewicz, turned out very strong, confirming their high aspiration of winning gold medals both in the individual and team disciplines, despite fierce competition.

A new MUS record was beaten. For several years the Polish Championships in rowing ergo-meter have been organized in Warsaw in the sports hall of the Warsaw University. The competition area was divided into four zones: the lightweight men and women and normal weight and normal light. Thus, despite the large number of participants, the event was conducted smoothly and with verve, and fans could get excited about their colleagues’ performance. Despite increasing competition the women students competed very well, taking the 5th place in the classification of types of universities. Well presented Ania Pawlowska and Ania Wrobel (respectively champion and vice-champion of MUS), reached the same time at 3:41 and appeared at the forefront of individual classification; other contestants also presented a high form, repeatedly breaking their life records. Encouraging is the fact that the women’s ergo-meter section for the second year in a row placed itself among the best in the classification of PAC.

Ania Wróbel

The greatest racing excitement accompanied the ergo-meter rowing men’s section who for a few years have regularly appeared on the podium of Polish Championships and despite the graduation of two key players, medalists in recent years - Michal Klukowski and Dominik Gorecki - the section still achieve great results. Hard work during the winter, a great attitude and determination has allowed once again for reaching for the gold medal in the category of social institutions - natural. Many players greatly improved their life records, and the gravy was a new event in the school record set by the lightweight Kamil Tarnowski, who after a fantastic finish won the gold medal in the category of individual types of universities. MUS rowers proved their high form among the top schools in the Polish ergo-meter races.

Best results show that, despite the annual changes in personnel of the rowing team for the Polish Championships, the level of the MUS players has for years remained the same high. Much of the credit is to be attributed to the coach Wojciech Jaskiewicz, who is not only very well able to prepare players for the season, but also to mobilize them for the major events. A great attitude of our players towards the PAC should be a good predictor of the season ahead.
