GIS Day is a global celebration of users of Geographic Information Systems. The main aim of the event is to popularize knowledge about GIS and raising awareness of how the use of this technology affects our lives.
GIS is generally computer hardware, data and solutions used by thousands of people worldwide in government, education and business. GIS allows you to see, understand, interpret and visualize data in many ways, in the form of maps, designs, reports and graphs.
GIS Day is an event sponsored by the National Geographic Society, the Association of American Geographers, UCGIS (University Consortium of Geographic Information Science), United States Geological Survey, The Library of Congress, Sun Microsystems, Hewlett-Packard, and ESRI. This year’s celebration is also attended by the Maritime University of Szczecin.
