Unia Europejska

Technologically advanced solutions arrived at the laboratories of the Maritime University of Szczecin at the beginning of this year. Thanks to modern equipment which will be used by students and scientists, the University does not lose its speed, extending its teaching and scientific offer.

A steam turbine station and a machine quality assessment set at the Faculty of Marine Engineering, the Logistics and Production Process Automation Laboratory at the Faculty of Economics and Engineering of Transport, equipment for the Satellite Navigation System as well as Radiolocation, Photogrammetry and Teledetection laboratories at the Faculty of Navigation - this is the equipment of the Maritime University of Szczecin, the purchase of which was possible thanks to a special subsidy from the Ministry of Maritime Economy and Inland Navigation.
Faculty of Marine Engineering – eco-power station on a vessel and modern methods of quality assessment
A steam generator station with a single-step steam turbine – it is a new simulator, which enables training of students and maritime staff (in professional development courses) in operation of steam turbine systems on modern vessels.

The station consists of:

  • a generator of steam saturated and heated to 250 degrees Celcius and the pressure of 12 bar;
  • a single-stage steam turbine with a power receiver;
  • a water-cooled atmospheric condenser;
  • a steam receipt security system, in emergency situations, in the form of a heat exchanger (emergency condenser);
  • control and measurement apparatus together with specialist software for monitoring and control as well as visualisation, recording, processing and storage of measurement data;
  • computer sets with specialist software, monitors and a printer.

Also, the Department of Machine Diagnostics and Repair received new equipment - a machine quality assessment set, consisting of a modern endoscope and a thermal imaging camera definitely extended the teaching and research possibilities.
The new FLIR VS70-Kit videoendoscope will now be used in teaching of such subjects as Machine Quality Assessment, Repair Technology and Technical Diagnostics. The equipment supplemented the borescope of an older type, which had been used previously. In this way, the Department now has two available types of endoscopes at its disposal, which are necessary for teaching and research works.

The new videoendoscope will enable teaching students and course participants how to use a fiberoscope with flexible 1000 mm-long probes and various measurement possibilities depending on different diameters and flexibility of the exchangeable probes.

The thermal imaging camera with the temperature measurement range from -10 to +150 degrees Celsius will facilitate both teaching and conducting of research works within the scope of assessing machine quality, the proper performance of vessel engines and devices as well as the leakage of vessel installations, including LNG.

Faculty of Navigation: modern education in compliance with the requirements of STCW
The new equipment supplemented the resources of the Department of Navigational Devices, i.e. the laboratories of satellite navigation systems and radiolacation. The laboratories were equipped with the following:

  • Simrad Halo-4, KODEN MDC-7904 radars
  • GPS/DGPS/SBAS Saab R5 Supreme DGNSS MKII receiver

The devices will enable maintaining high educational standards provided thanks to teaching based on the equipment used in practice by navigators. Except for their didactic value, the devices will be actively used by students and academic staff for scientific research.
The Laboratory of Photogrammetry and Teledetection of the Institute of Geoinformatics obtained the necessary equipment -

  • DJI PHANTOM 4 PRO PLUS DRONE
  • PAROT SEQUOIA MULTISPECTRAL CAMERA

The current technologies enable obtaining of most geodata with the use of non-contact teledetection systems. The Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS), which enable preparation of studies for small areas, are being used more frequently. This implies the use of new measurement instruments, which require further research within the scope of their applicability for preparation of full-value photogrammetric products. This, in particular, is connected with the subject matter of the research conducted at the Maritime University of Szczecin within the scope of development of electronic navigational charts for inland navigation or RIS (River Information Services).

The Faculty of Economics and Transport Engineering: automation on the highest level
The laboratory of logistics and production process automation, which is now being established at the Faculty, will enable students to learn modern technologies currently used in automation and robotics of the industry and logistics processes.
The laboratory will also provide the facilities for research work within the scope of production process optimization as well as the use of innovative methods supporting logistics processes and, thus, enable further development of cooperation between the Faculty and its business surrounding.
The laboratory equipment:

  • An industrial robot with a manual robot programmer and controller;
  • An industrial robot with a controller;
  • Eight software licences for simulation of the operation of Kawasaki robots with an E-series controller for (computer) stations already owned by the Maritime University;

An unlimited licence providing access to full functionality of the software.
