The choir of the Maritime University of Szczecin directed by Sylwia Fabiańczyk – Makuch became the first prize winner at the 13th International Religious Music Festival named after Rev. Stanisław Ormiński in Rumia.

The festival is one of the most important contests of this type in the north of Poland. This year the event held in the NMP Church in Rumia from 14 -16.10.2010, consisted of two contests – the organ and choir music. 17 choirs from Poland, Czech and Russia, which passed the qualifications, were divided into two categories.

He MU choir performed 5 songs: „Prayer to Bogurodzica” by J. Świder, „The Sea Psalm 107” by M. Jasiński, (dedicated to the Szczecin choir and its conductor), „Salve Regina” by L. Jansson, „Soon I Will Be Done” W. L. Dawson and a Kashubian song about the sea entitled „Bote ju jida” by J. Stachurski and E. Pryczkowski. The jury consisting of 7 people highly estimated the skills of the Szczecin choir and its conductor. The final note comprised the assessment of: intonation, dynamics, rhythm, repertoire and the general artistic impression. The choir was awarded with the first prize both in its category, and for the best performance of the Kashubian song. This year it’s the consecutive success of the MU choir, since in September they got the Grand Prix at the Choir Tournament in Chełmno.
