In the second quarter of 2013 on the initiative of the Technology Transfer Centre, Maritime University has signed five new agreements on cooperation in the framework of the ERASMUS program with universities in Bulgaria, the Netherlands, Finland (two schools) and Turkey. In preparation are the next three agreements with universities in Croatia, Turkey and Ireland.
So quick to acquire new partner institutions was made possible by preparing an interesting offer of classes taught in English by the Faculty of Marine Engineering and the Faculty of Economics and Transport Engineering. This makes foreign universities to be more likely to sign agreements on exchange of students. That offer is an important argument put forward by CTTM when contacting potential partner universities across Europe.
The ERASMUS program significantly contributes to the internationalization of study which is one of the objectives of the Bologna Process. Experts indicate that by 2020 at least 20% of students in each university should have had a period of study abroad, which includes practice and internships carried out under the program of study. Such internships are offered by the University under the maritime practices and also within the ERASMUS program as well as the project ‘ORDERED COURSES’ conducted at the Faculty of Marine Engineering and funded by the Human Capital Operational Program.
Students’ international experience is appreciated by the potential employers.
In conclusion, it is worth noting that the ERASMUS program gives the opportunity to go to a partner university not only to students but also the teaching and administrative staff. At the partner university teaching staff can conduct lectures on subjects in which they specialize, whereas the administrative staff can undergo a week-long training on international cooperation. Such a trip lasts about a week
