The conference Green Cities was co-organised by the Maritime University of Szczecin, the Marshal's Office of the West Pomerania Province and the Central European Transport Corridor European Grouping of Territorial Cooperation as a part of the Low Carbon Logistics (LCL) project financed from the South Baltic Programme.

The meeting was attended by almost 100 people from 19 countries and as many as 65 presentations were delivered! The conference is a platform for exchanging knowledge and experience within the scope of implementing urban logistic solutions in the context of sustainable development with special focus on environmental issues and reduction of the negative influence of the city freight transport on the environment.

The city freight transport is a subject that we are frequently not aware of, whereas it is worth remembering that it affects all city dwellers. Deliveries of freight to the centres of big cities and smaller towns have a direct effect on the life of their inhabitants - we would like to have access to all the necessary products, often without thinking how the goods have to be transported to the destination. Systemic and ecological solutions to the problems of city deliveries were the subject of discussion for scientists and practitioners from all around the world.

The conference guests included world logistics experts such as Russell Thompson from University of Melbourne or Ron van Duin from Delft University of Technology. The conference lasted for two days - the first one was devoted to scientific presentations, whereas the second one to discussion sessions.

The West Pomerania Province, as a partner of the event, organised an international debate. 9 projects implemented within 5 EU programmes were invited to take part in the discussion entitled New challenges for transport systems beyond 2020. The projects included: LCL, EUFAL, SULPiTER, NOVELOG, TalkNet, Emma, TENTacle, SubNodes and Scandria®2Act. The discussion on the subject of transport and logistics development transferred its perspective from the urban to the regional one.

The participants of the debate encompassed representatives of various communities, thanks to which it was a perfect place for exchanging knowledge and experience within the scope of implementing effective and innovative solutions in transport. The issues raised during discussions enabled the participants to look for answers to some questions related to e.g. the future of transport and logistics, the priorities of transport policy after 2020, the possibilities of reducing the negative influence of transport systems on the environment and the challenges in the area of freight transport in the face of progressing urbanisation.
