Ships made from PET bottles, cardboard, sticks, lollipop sticks, paper bags and balls are works of students of the Maritime University of Szczecin.
They were constructed within the framework of a competition ‘Be ECO - build a BOAT’, which last year was organized by the Careers Office, MUS together with the Unibaltic Ltd. They could be seen at an exhibition of all the works that took part in the competition on the Day of School, May 08 2013.
The ship models could be built only from recycled materials (e.g. plastics, aluminum cans, glass containers, batteries, fluorescent lamps, e-waste, paper, cardboard, tires, styrofoam, plastic bags, nuts, aerosol containers, etc.). An additional condition was to create a vessel of the owner - Unibaltic Ltd. (according to the designs available in the Careers Office, MUS), which this year celebrates its 10th anniversary.
The competition was attended by 21 people, including nine women, 19 ship models (student teams also participated). All the contestants were awarded.
The students’ works were assessed in two stages. In the first stage were evaluated: appearance, the quality of the constructed model (choice of colors, details, signs), true to the original (form accuracy, thoroughness, clarity of execution), the manner of making the model (ingenuity, type of material).

The second stage is performed by means of the Unibaltic Ltd. company website, where the final decision concerning the places shall be taken by Unibaltic partners.
All vessels were made from recycled materials, or of cardboard, PET bottles, aluminum cans, etc. Our students have demonstrated great creativity, using such a variety of recycled stuff.
During the announcement of the results in the Senate Hall, the winners received a letter of congratulations and an invitation to attend the anniversary of the Unibaltic company, which will be held on May 16, 2013, at the Castle of the Pomeranian Dukes in Szczecin. There they will receive prizes such as paid internship, ultra-book with a touch screen, laptop, or tablet.
