During a two-day visit in the Zachodniopomorskie voivodeship (14th – 15th May 2014) Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Economy Janusz Piechociński visited the Maritime University of Szczecin. He met the University authorities and visited simulator laboratories.

After a meeting with Prof. DSc. PhD. Eng. Master Mariner Stanisław Gucma - Rector of the Maritime University of Szczecin, the Deputy Prime Minister visited the Marine Traffic Engineering Centre and LNG European Training Centre.

Afterwards he participated in “Transport and Infrastructure” meeting which was also attended by representatives of the maritime sector (i.a. Mr Andrzej Borowiec – the director of the Maritime Office in Szczecin, Mr Paweł Szynkaruk – the managing director of the Polish Steamship Company and Mr Arkadiusz Wójcik – the chairman of Unibaltic), academic teachers and students of our University.

The Rector presented vital aspects of University’s activities and investments such as participation of the University’s employees in carrying out the construction project of the LNG terminal in Świnoujście. In his speech, the Deputy Prime Minister congratulated the Rector on the high position that the University obtained in the ranking of Polish universities (our University is one of the 49 in the country he visited). He also thanked for our consistency in maintaining a European level of education at the Maritime University of Szczecin. He went on to emphasize challenges and opportunities that Polish students are going to encounter, which result from the necessity to compete with foreign universities and the ever increasing innovativeness of Polish education.

Throughout the visit at our University, the Deputy Prime Minister was accompanied by Mr Ryszard Mićko – Vice-Voivode of the Zachodniopomorskie voivodeship and Mr Jarosław Rzepa, a member of the management board of the Zachodniopomorskie voivodeship.

The Deputy Prime Minister also visited Bulk Cargo-Port Szczecin LLC and Industrial Park in Stargard.
