On May 08 2013, Maritime University of Szczecin celebrated, the Feast of the School. The program of this year's celebration was very rich, and the focal point of the celebration was the 15th anniversary of the flag raising on institutional ship m / s ‘Navigator XXI’.

The ceremony, which started with the flag raising in front of the main building of the University at Waly Chrobrego, was attended by the MUS authorities, a guard of honor, the staff and students of the university, representatives of the Captains Club and the Association of the Chief Engineers.

Then, according to the tradition, flowers were laid at the memorial plaque in front of the former building of the State Maritime Academy, Al. Piast (now the Faculty of Marine Engineering and Mechatronics ZUT).

At noon on board m / s ‘Navigator XXI’ a formal sitting of the MUS Senate was held.

The history and fate of the ‘Navigator XXI’ was presented, ‘Sea Dog 2013’ statuettes and the award for the MUS most active student were handed in. This year’s ‘Sea Dog’ became a MUS GRADUATE, Arkadiusz Wojcik – CEO of Unibaltic sp zoo. Special title of ‘Honorary Sea Dog’ was handed in to Prof. Alexander Walczak.

The reward and recognition for the most active student were given to Joanna Gładysz, the fourth year students of the Faculty of Economics and Transport Engineering of the Maritime University of Szczecin, whose major is logistics and management in the European transport system

During the ceremony, Iwona Bartólewska - attorney Undersecretary of State in the Ministry of Transport, Construction and Maritime Economy read a congratulatory letter of the Secretary of State Anna Wypych-Namiotko addressed to the authorities of the University of Szczecin.

Congratulations submitted also: Marshal of the West Pomeranian Province, Olgierd Geblewicz, Vice President of Szczecin Krzysztof Soska, Dean of the Faculty of Navigation of the Maritime University of Gdynia, Adam Weintrit, PhD, Master Mariner.

The most spectacular part of the school holidays were organized on board the Navigator XXI shows such as sea rescue exercise involving sniffer dogs.

In addition to representatives of the University in Szczecin (students and Marine Rescue Training Centre), in the exercises also took part representatives of the Maritime Office in Szczecin, Border Guard officers PFSO (Port Facility Security Officer) port facilities, Pomeranian Volunteer Ambulance Service.

In the afternoon, all MUS employees and students had common fun time at a picnic, playing together - a sports tournament, time of recreation and a concert of ‘Old Smuggler’ a shanties band.

15 years anniversary of the flag raising on a training and research ship m / s ‘Navigator XXI’

The training and research vessel of the Maritime University was launched on May 24, 1997, in Gdansk Repair Shipyard and christened by Jolanta Kwaśniewska, the then president of Poland’s wife.

Flag-raising ceremony took place on 30 January 1998 The ship entered service of then the Maritime College, acting both as a training base for students, as well as a base for carrying out all kinds of research and studies concerning navigation and marine environment.

M/s ‘Navigator XXI’ is not only the prestige of the University, but also a number of tasks that she performs.

It is used, among others, for monitoring the state of the Baltic Sea and other areas, taking water samples at different depths and in different parts of the marine areas, soil samples from the bottom surface and subsurface, processing samples in the laboratory and transmitting the data to the on-shore receivers.

The ship also performs educational functions - students are trained in the field of navigation, operation of the power station, operation of on-board devices and facilities as well as co-operation during research projects- this is where future sailors take their first seamanship practice.
