Poland is the leader of a flag project “Create a network of centers of excellence for maritime training” (creating nets of certified centers of excellence for integrated maritime training) realized within the framework of the Strategy for the Southern Baltic Region.

The project objective is to increase safety at sea and unify high European standards of maritime training conducted by centers of excellence for maritime training.

Realization of the project will provide young people with:

  • the highest standard of maritime education conducted by certified maritime training centers meeting the requirements of ”centre of excellence”,
  • high level of acquired skills and education enabling the students competitive position on the job market
  • unified ways of testing maritime competence
  • possibility of pursuing marine and on-shore career,
  • perspectives for long lasting career in maritime economy professions;

The Project is realized by the Ministry of Infrastructure (Department of Maritime Transport and Inland Shipping) in cooperation with Agricultural Academy of Szczecin and Maritime University of Gdynia as well as maritime administration and maritime schools. Since maritime education and career appear one of the objectives of the Integrated Maritime Policy and the Maritime Transport Strategy till 2018, the institutions responsible for the project realization welcome employers, training centers and all others interested in development of the European net of maritime training centers.

The aim of the project is to create a net of cooperating maritime schools and training centers, supported by transport and maritime industry representatives capable of providing trainings and qualifications meeting the expectations of the maritime branch of industry.

The Seminar, which is to be held on 10.10.2010. at the Maritime University of Szczecin, will be a good chance for discussion between the three groups of the interested parties, namely maritime administration, employers and maritime schools. The meeting is expected to initiate a cooperation leading to creating training institutions and unifying the system of maritime education first in the region of the Baltic Sea as a good example to follow by all the other EU countries.
