Choir of the Szczecin Maritime University conducted by Sylvia Fabiańczyk-Makuch has won Grand Prix at the XIV Lodz Choral Festival in Lodz - Cantio Lodziensis!

Cantio Lodziensis for many years has been one of the largest national choral competitions enjoying high prestige. This year’s edition, held on 19-20 November, was attended by 32 choirs from all over Poland including Warsaw, Lodz, Poznan, Wroclaw, Krakow and Torun and others.

Choirs competed in various categories, as assessed by five-person jury consisting of eminent professors from music academies led by acclaimed Polish composer, Prof. Joseph Swider. At the hearing the Maritime University Choir composed of 40choir singers performed five songs, including one written by a Lodz composer Bronislaw Kazimierz Przybylski, a contemporary sacred song and songs of seafaring.

The jury highly assessed the skills of young singers from Szczecin awarding them with the grand prize: Grand Prix for the best choir of the festival. It is already the third Grand Prix won by the young, established in 2003 the band. Previously they scored in the second tournament for Crystal Heart Choir Autumn in Chelmno; Chelmno (2010), in the sixth tournament of Choirs in Brodnica - Drwęca Ribbon (2009), and also took the first place at the 12th Fr. S. Ormiński Festival of Religious Music in Rumia (2010). In July this year, the choir toured Spain, taking part in festivals in Torrevieja and Segorbe.
