Due to the initiative of the Department of the West Pomeranian Regional Development Agency and the Modernization of Agriculture in Szczecin, Mr. Jarosław Łojko, a delegation of AiRMA with its president, Mr Tomasz Kołodziej, visited Model Research Station in Ińsk and the Baltic Fisheries Training Centre in Kolobrzeg on 27 and 28 June 2012.

< Model Research Station of Ińsk is administered by the Maritime University of Szczecin, West Pomeranian University of Technology, and focuses mainly on:

  • research in the field of fishing gear and fishing vessels
  • training and educational activities for students and interested companies as well as ship owners and their crews.

Baltic Sea Fishery Training Centre in Kolobrzeg is the Maritime University latest investment. The main objective of the center is to prepare fisheries-related personnel for requirements of ratified and revised regulations of the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and surveillance of fishing vessels crews (STCW-F) of 1995, which will come into force on 29 September 2012 (12 months after the ratification of the 15th country, which is the Republic of Palau). STCW-F Convention contains a set of minimum requirements for certification and training for crews of fishing vessels 24 meters long or more. STCW-F has been accepted by Canada, Denmark, Iceland, Kiribati, Latvia, Mauritania, Morocco, Namibia, Norway, Republic of Palau, the Russian Federation, Sierra Leone, Spain, Syria and Ukraine.

The main objective of this Convention is to ensure greater safety for fishing vessels and the fishermen themselves. The center will also conduct training courses for workers in the maritime economy. Currently has been completed the investment phase of construction consisting of a center of its infrastructure, which is the restoration of the historic complex of buildings in Warzelnicza street in Kolobrzeg and its adoption for training purposes. Currently the center is being fitted in equipment and simulators to support the teaching process.

The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the opportunities and scopes of cooperation between AiRMA and the Maritime University of Szczecin. It was attended by the following representatives of MUS,WPTU(ZUT) and AiRMA:
