A Polish delegation member and an employee of the Engineering and Economics of Transport Faculty, Marta Barańska, MSc Eng attended the session as an expert. The Committee partakes in the IMO’s works through developing new instruments, such as the Polar Code, working on amendments to the MARPOL convention and its Codes as well as through implementing and standardising international regulations as to, among others:

• ballast water treatment system (Convention BMW, 2004)
• protection against air pollution from ships (Annex VI to MARPOL convention 73/78)
• guidelines of The Hong Kong International Convention for the Safe and Environmental Sound Recycling of Ships (HKC).

Much to our satisfaction, we hereby report that the academics from the Maritime University of Szczecin have been playing an active role in the works and activities of the International Maritime Organisation.
