On 2-6.09.2013 in London, the 59th session of the Sub-Committee for Safety of Navigation (NAV) of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) London 2013 was held.

The Polish delegation, attending the session, employees of the Faculty of Navigation: Professor Zbigniew Pietrzykowski and Witold Kazimierski, PhD, presented an informative document of the Polish group, NAV 59/INF.2, entitled ‘Report on research project in the field of e-navigation’ for the agenda item ‘Development of an e-navigation strategy implementation plan’. The objective of the document prepared by a team under the supervision of Prof. Zbigniew Pietrzykowski, the Faculty of Navigation (with the participation of the members of the Polish section of the NAV Subcommittee) is to:

  1. present the results of research carried out in Poland in terms of possible applications of ICT in maritime navigation, particularly studies on NAVDEC navigation decision support system, developed at the Maritime University of Szczecin,
  2. indicate the trend of navigational information systems towards decision support systems,
  3. highlight the need to define the requirements and standards for decision support systems,
  4. demonstrate the need for the inclusion of decision support systems in an e-navigation strategy,

Navigation Faculty staff actively participated in the works of e-Navigation working group.
