The “tethered drone” idea was developed in SARA (Search and Rescue Aid and Surveillance using High EGNSS Accuracy) project.
MUS was a partner in the project consortium led by the Italian company Sistematica SPA, which also included a drone manufacturer TopView SRL, the University of Florence and the University of Aarhus. The project ended in 2020.
The SARA project tests of the “tethered drone” took place on the training vessel Nawigator XXI. The drone is a tool primarily for SAR services enabling the increase of the detection range of survivors and their precise location. MUS team was supervised by prof. Lucjan Gucma, DSc. Eng. and was responsible for the inclusion of the present and future requirements of users at sea in this project, including the solution of problems related to positioning, data presentation on the electronic navigational chart as well as coordination of the cooperation with the Polish Maritime Search and Rescue Service.
