University Equality Policy

The responsibilities of the Equal Opportunities Team include:

  • developing guidelines for the Equal Opportunities Plan of the Maritime University of Szczecin;
  • diagnosis and analysis of collected data concerning possible limitations to the development opportunities of employees and students at the University;
  • developing the Equal Opportunities Plan for the Maritime University of Szczecin;
  • performing an adjudicative function in the interpretation of internal regulations in the context of the Equality Policy, as well as an advisory function for the University community and its bodies;
  • developing a procedure for diagnosing, reporting and responding to cases of unequal opportunities, including behaviours motivated by prejudice.

What is the goal of the work of the Equality Policy Team?

The aim of the Team’s work will be to promote attitudes supporting the sustainable and unrestricted development of employees and students, as well as equality and diversity as principles that enable the full use of potential and guarantee autonomy and the full realisation of rights to all members of the academic community. The result of its work will be the development of the “Equal Opportunities Plan for the Maritime University of Szczecin” based on an analysis of the University’s own needs, analysis of indicators from similar documents and solutions in place at Polish and European universities, as well as on the results of the diagnosis carried out at the University.

“Gender Equality Plans in Horizon Europe” – A Guide for Polish Research Institutions Equal Opportunities Information Brochure The Equal Opportunities Information Brochure aims to raise our awareness of equality law and to help every person in our community whose right to equal treatment might be restricted. The goal of the MUS Equality Policy is to ensure that every person studying or working at our University has the right to equal treatment. We want all members of our academic community to be able to fully realise their potential and enjoy their rights. In response to the need to take action against discrimination, the Equal Opportunities Information Brochure has been created. We invite you to familiarise yourself with its content.

Equal Opportunities Plan 2025–2028 Equal Opportunities Plan 2022–2024 Discrimination Reporting Procedure
  1. A report of a discrimination case may be submitted by any person belonging to the University’s academic community who feels subjected to discriminatory actions or who has witnessed such actions.
  2. Reporting a discrimination case cannot serve as grounds for unfavourable treatment and must not result in any retaliatory actions.
  3. A discrimination case may be reported by email to: equalmus@pm.szczecin.pl or in paper form via the correspondence box No. 66 EqualMUS, located in the main University building on the ground floor near room 61.
  4. When reporting a discrimination case, the reporting form may be used.
  5. All reports submitted in the above-mentioned forms are received by the Rector’s Plenipotentiary for Equality. Members of the Team are also authorised to receive reports.
  6. Anonymous reports will not be considered.
  7. The person receiving the report confirms receipt to the reporting person and forwards it to the Chairperson of the Team.
  8. If the report does not clearly state an allegation, contains unclear or incomprehensible information, the person receiving the report informs the reporting person of the need to supplement the content of the report, together with a notice that further processing will only take place after the deficiencies have been remedied.

Language is an important element of culture, shaping interpersonal relations and intercultural understanding. It is recommended to consciously choose words that respect everyone, regardless of their personal characteristics. Inclusive language is a form of communication that avoids exclusionary expressions, respects diversity and the experiences of all people. Equality Policy at MUS
- we are working on coherent principles that will guide the entire academic community in their daily work and ensure equal opportunities in terms of individual development and the full rights of all students and staff, regardless of their gender.
The Equal Opportunities Plan for the Maritime University of Szczecin is being developed by a specially appointed team composed of representatives of University authorities, students and staff. 
The team's tasks include: developing guidelines for the Equal Opportunities Plan at the Maritime University of Szczecin, analysing data on possible limitations regarding development opportunities for staff and students, and creating a procedure for diagnosing, reporting and responding to cases of unequal opportunities, including prejudiced behaviour.
