Abstract: Increasing demand for new energy sources requires the use of new substances in the production of energy or at least innovative application of the already known compounds. Considering the above, LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) is more and more often used as fuel, as the growing pollution of the environment and rapid climate changes force the reduction of emissions of sulphur and nitrogen oxides to the environment. Liquid methane no longer contains sulphur oxides in any form because they are removed during the gas methane liquefaction process. In view of the above, this type of fuel is perceived as a good alternative to classical fuels used in maritime transport. Especially due to the fact that, in accordance with the guidelines of the white paper prepared at the request of the-then Trans-European Transport Network Executive Agency (TEN-T EA), 30% of road transport at distances greater than 300 [km] will have been replaced by rail and sea transport by 2030. Additionally, a network of gas bunkering points for sea vessels will have been established by 2025. This proves the growing demand for new sources of clean energy, which will reduce the emission of sulphur oxides or nitrogen oxides to the environment. The article presents the effect of the type of unsealing, the method of release and the type of place of spreading the gas cloud resulting from the release of LNG from the Q-flex container vessel. The article presents the simulation of scenarios for immediate and continuous leaks of LNG in the case of unsealing created above the water and ground level.

Abstract: The study involved research related to the selection of the material with improved functional properties that can be used for dental prostheses. An innovative system of nanofillers, that differ in shape, by means of gelatin-modified halloysite nanotubes (HNTs-g) along with silane-coupled aluminum trihydrate (ATH-sil) was prepared, in order to observe a synergistic improvement of acrylic material (methyl methacrylate with methyl methacrylate monomer (MM/mMM)). Selected mechanical properties of manufactured nanocomposites, along with utilitarian properties, like hardness, buffer solution absorption, and abrasion resistance, along with a fall test from the height of finished products have been discussed. Moreover, the study of the biofilm formation on the surface of dental prostheses confirmed the occurrence of a synergistic improvement of properties and the legitimacy of using modified mineral nanofillers in the form of a hybrid system.

Abstract: 3D printing technology was developed nearly 30 years ago. One of its characteristics is that instead of removing materials, 3D printing creates 3D elements directly from CAD models, adding one layer of material on another. This offers a beneficial capability of making complex elements in terms of shape and materials, impossible to be manufactured by traditional methods. Owing to intensive research in recent years, considerable progress has been achieved in the development and commercialisation of new innovative processes of 3D printing by fused deposition modeling (FDM), including printing of composite materials. The study outlines the main methods of creating polymer composite structures using FDM technology.

Abstract: The article presents the preliminary tests of a multi layer composite material that meets design requirements for hulls of some vessels intended for inland navigation. In the analysis and description of operating conditions of inland vessels a particular focus was put on the safety and operational costs of the vessels. The solution proposed to increase operational safety consists in introducing a multi layer material that limits the loss of hull integrity in the case a vessel hits an underwater object. For comparative studies, the conditions of the adopted technological bending test were defined along with requirements for multi layer test plates. Plates produced for the tests were three- and four-layered 14-30 mm thick plates made of three materials: epoxy resin-based suspension composites reinforced with ceramic particles, polyester resin-based composites reinforced with ordered fiberglass and metal foams based on aluminium and aluminium-ceramic epoxy. The preliminary research results include the resistance of test plates to bending in the adopted technological test conditions and abrasive resistance. Particular reference was made to the manufacturing of so composed layered materials applying a known and widely used process of forming profiled elements of polymer-glass composites in negative moulds. The type of inland vessel was more precisely indicated, along with advantages and purpose of using the materials under consideration.

Abstract: The Baltic Sea is crisscrossed by several dense vessel traffic routes. Growing shipping traffic increases the likelihood of collisions. A quantitative analysis of the impact of fishing vessel traffic streams on streams of merchant vessel traffic aims to identify areas of intense traffic of this type and to assess the potential risks. The identification of intersections of fishing vessel routes and merchant shipping traffic allows us to identify spots of potential collisions. The analysis made use of the IALA IWRAP Mk2 program and AIS data collected from April 1, 2013 to March 31, 2014.

Title: Dimensioning of Danger Zones Emerging as a Domino Effect of An Lng Explosion for Industrial Plants Located in the Vicinity of Inland Transport Fairways
Author/Authors: Agnieszka Kalbarczyk-Jedynak, Wojciech Ślączka
Place of publication: New Trends in Production Engineering
Year: 2018
Keywords: BLEVE, LNG, Phast, danger zones, domino effect
Abstract: The development of new technologies, the use and transport of LNG increases the number of investments that may mutually affect their safety on account of a domino effect. It means that a breakdown caused by one of the business entities may contribute to the escalation of a problem through thermal energy emission in another entity. The energy absorbed in an adjacent technological process line may cause irreparable damage despite the security measures employed. When planning an investment of a pioneering nature, one ought to consider not only the modern technologies used in a newly designed installation, but one must also pay attention to the direct neighbourhood of other industrial plants and the planned infrastructure, e.g. for gas transport or transhipment. Such a synergistic approach guarantees the safety of undertaken activities and ensures a stable, breakdown-free operation of all the business entities located in a given area. This paper discusses the issue of mutual influence exerted by two independent entities located within a small distance of one another, i.e. salt processing plant and a vessel transporting an LNG mixture. The authors considered a situation in which a breakdown occurs in an industrial plant and in which the released energy causes damage to a tank shell of an LNG carrying vessel on an inland fairway. In the examined situation the types of risks arising from LNG tank shell damage on-board an inland vessel were defined and the dimensions of the resulting danger zones were determined in a function of concentration of individual LNG components as well as the pressure and temperature generated inside the tank. The shape of the tank was also taken into consideration, since it affects fractioning in the course of the release of the substance accumulated in it. The analysis was conducted on the basis of DNV Phast 7.11 software.

Abstract: This work indicates that new and innovative materials used in the construction of floating and stationary marine structures can contribute to increased operational safety in addition to reduced service costs and frequency and other reduced operating costs, including the costs of staff and running maintenance. Such materials include metal-ceramic composites whose properties, such as high resistance to abrasive wear, favourable coefficient of friction, good thermal conductivity and low thermal expansion, allow them to be used in tribological pairs in mechanisms, control elements and actuators of various devices operating in marine power plants, thereby increasing their operational reliability. Properties of metal-ceramic composite foams, i.e. vibration and noise damping, good thermal insulation performance, dissipation of electromagnetic waves and absorption of explosive energy, make them ideal for use in shipbuilding and construction of drilling towers, at the same time increasing the levels of comfort during operation. Composite metal-ceramic foams can significantly reduce the effects of fires as they are durable, water-resistant and creep resistant thermal insulators which can limit the destruction (deformation) of steel structures. This paper presents proposals for the application of these materials to selected technical solutions in offshore structures.

Abstract: The availability of the Baltic Sea for the largest container vessels is limited primarily to the depth of the Danish Straits. Ships with maximum dimensions of technical for shipping by the Danish Strait are called Baltimax. Currently, the theoretical size of the dimensions of the vessels are as follows: draught 15 m, width 42-48 m, length 240 – 260 m, capacity 100-120 thousand DWT. Therefore, the authors have analyzed the actual draught consumables container ships of the three largest companies in the world in terms of availability of The Danish and the Baltic Sea for the biggest of them. The research was conducted on the basis of an analysis of traffic stream of ships from AIS (Automatic Identification System). Were analyzed only container ships close to the maximum container vessel for which at the moment is the container terminal in Gdańsk and for which will be adapted and planned Container Terminal in Świnoujście. Leading authors focused measurements on a single parameter which is the draught of the vessel and on its limitations caused by Nordstream. In the article an attempt to demonstrate that the draught of the vessel are not fully used during the operations.

Abstract: The article presents the genesis of safety assessment of LNG tankers, along with safety criteria. The utilitarian need to carry out simulation research risk assessment in respect of a LNG carrier manoeuvring in restricted areas has been justified . As a standard vessel an oil tanker has been assumed meeting the authorisation requirements of the the selected LNG terminal. The ship’s operational conditions have been identified and correlated with the manoeuvres in the terminal’s area. The mathematical models of basic manoeuvres have been built taking into account their execution by admitted to the research ship depending on the possible types of propulsion systems that meet the ecological requirements of navigational zone. In the mathematical description the characteristics of the geometry of the hull (the length over all, breadth, draught) and vessel movement parameters in hydro-meteorological conditions have been taken into account. Diagnosis has been provided for and the mathematical description has been made in respect of the critical manoeuvres in relation to the ship navigation’s safety on the fairway and terminal’s areas. The initial conditions and boundaries have been determined. Simulation studies can be conducted with the use of the software based on dynamic modelling of the designed system as assumed for the purpose of research. Studies can be located in the areas and fairways not technically verified so far.. The opportunities have been presented to conduct research using different methods of risk assessment.
