The project entitled: "Development of a technology for acquisition and exploration of gravimetric data of the foreshore and seashore of Polish maritime areas" (MORGAV) obtained co-financing as a part of measure 4.1 Research and Development, sub-measure 04 "Application Projects" of the Smart Growth Operational Programme 2014-2020 co-financed from the resources of the European Regional Development Fund.

Agreement no.: POIR.04.01.04-00-0080/17-00
Project value: PLN 2 575 895 PLN

The project is carried out by a consortium including:

  1. Gdańsk University of Technology – the consortium leader;
  2. Maritime University of Szczecin;
  3. GEOPARTNER Sp. z o.o.

The project will be carried out from 02.07.2018 to 01.07.2021

The aim of the project is development of a technology for acquisition and exploration of gravimetric data of the foreshore and seashore of Polish maritime areas for the needs of harmonisation of maritime vertical measurements with the EVRS (European Vertical Reference System) through using of gravity potential differences referred to the level of Normaal Amsterdams Peil.

This is compliant with the guidelines of the Baltic Sea Hydrographic Commission (BSHC) included in the IHO. The solution will refer to the areas which are interesting for Polish maritime economy. An important element will be improvement of geoid parameters through verification of the existing gravimetric data and filling of the empty areas. These activities are an important basis for safe maritime navigation. The team conducts the measurements using the Micro-g LaCoste LLC MGS-6 gravimetric system as well as research ships. A part of the research integration of data from a lidar, multi-beam echo sounders and precise navigation devices. The data is not only referred to the earth surface, but also used in regional geological recognition for the needs of geological structure mapping as well as examination of geodynamic phenomena in the coastal zone. The developed technology for acquisition and exploration of highly precise gravimetric data of maritime areas will fill a significant information gap in the Polish Exclusive Economic Zone. The research results will enable practical implementation of automatic methods for monitoring of maritime areas as well as multi-aspect analyses of spatial data. Static models of the Earth gravitational field from observations made with gradiometers (SGG) and GPS Tracking (SST) e.g. of the GEOCE system are used as the output data for gravimetric measurements.
