In the period 25-26 June 2018, the 1st Development Vision Forum was held in the Pomeranian Scientific and Technology Park and Gdynia Arena Hall under the auspices of the Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki and selected ministers, who also participated in works of the Forum and delivered their keynote speeches. The Forum gathered representatives of local governments, state administration, business and science. 17 theme blocks and 96 discussion panels were organised.
Jarosław Artyszuk, DSc. Eng. Professor of MUS, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Navigation for Science was invited to the TFL (transport/forwarding/logistics) panel - ‘TFL innovations and directions of development’ as an expert/panellist. The discussions covered challenges in strategic sectors of Polish economy, which, as assumed, are supposed to facilitate economic changes and creation of new projects. Simultaneously, on 25th June 2018, the seminar entitled: MASS (Maritime Autonomous Surface Ships) - autonomous ships - not a distant future? was held in Gdańsk in the Head Office of Polski Rejestr Statków S.A. The seminar gathered over 100 representatives of marine administration, industry and universities interested in implementation of autonomous technologies at sea. The subject matter included works in IMO and IACS, the levels or degrees of autonomy, the security of unmanned trading vessels, the investigation of marine accidents with participation of MASS, the control algorithms and Polish works on the subject of MASS. The presentation entitled MASS from the Perspective of the Faculty of Navigation of the Maritime University of Szczecin was delivered by: the Dean of the Faculty of Navigation, Paweł Zalewski, DSc. Eng. Professor of MUS and Zbigniew Pietrzykowski, DSc. Eng. Professor of MUS.
An important issue for future seamen is the forecast mentioned by many experts, which is also compliant with the expectations and strategic development activities of the Faculty of Navigation. According to the forecast, the current standards and competences of seamen will still be required in the future but supplemented with the competences of remote control, operation and monitoring of ships enabling the functioning of MASS and environmental protection in accordance with the currently acceptable level of security and protection.
