On 20th February 2018, a public defence of the doctoral dissertation by Katarzyna Bryll, MSc. was held in the Hall of the Senate of the Maritime University of Szczecin.

The title of the dissertation

"Shaping of operational Properties and rRcycling of Single Composite Polymer Materials."

Supervisor:

  • Katarzyna Gawdzińska, PhD. Eng., MUS  Professor

Auxiliary supervisor:

  • Elżbieta Piesowicz, PhD. Eng. from the West Pomeranian University of Technology in Szczecin

Reviewers:

  • Professor Zbigniew Walenty Rosłaniec from the West Pomeranian University of Technology in Szczecin,
  • Dorota Czarnecka-Komorowska, PhD. Eng. from the Poznan University of Technology.

Ms Katarzyna Bryll is a graduate of the West Pomeranian University of Technology in Szczecin, the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Mechatronics, where she was conferred a Master of Science degree in 2012. Since 2012, she has been working as an assistant in the Department of Vessel Materials Engineering of the Institute of Basic Technical Sciences of the Faculty of Marine Engineering of the Maritime University of Szczecin.

By resolution of the Council of the Faculty of Marine Engineering of MUS of 19.05.2015, the procedure was commenced to confer a PhD degree on the above mentioned person. The aim of the doctoral dissertation was the analysis of the influence of material and technological conditions of single polymer composite materials from commercial and waste foil on their proper usage, recycling of these materials and determination of the parameters of this process together with the use of single polymer composite materials as an alternative for laminates with glass fibre. The composite materials were produced and processed with the film-stacking method. Selected mechanical, physical and performance-related properties were examined. Single polymer composite materials are a response to the demand e.g. for light, durable materials, which are completely recyclable after the end of their useful life.

As a result of the defence, the Council of the Faculty of Marine Engineering of MUS accepted the public defence of the doctoral dissertation and conferred Katarzyna Bryll, MSc. with the scientific degree of a doctor in the field of technical sciences, discipline of machine construction and operation with a specialisation of manufacturing and recycling of polymer composite materials.
