The Conference looked at key challenges and opportunities for the offshore wind energy industry (OWE), especially in the West Pomerania region.
The aim of the Conference
The international MEW Conference (MEW - Pol. morska energetyka wiatrowa - Eng. offshore wind energy), held on 6th October 2022, aimed to present the development of the offshore wind energy industry (OWE) in Poland, with a particular focus on the role of West Pomerania province and the Maritime University of Szczecin as a research and training centre for future offshore staff and to put the spotlight on the promoting the integration of education with industry.The project was co-financed by the Regional Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management in Szczecin.
Extensive Conference programme
The Conference was opened by the MUS Rector, Wojciech Ślączka, then chairman of the MEW Conference Dr Jan Drzewieniecki from the Faculty of Marine Engineering welcomed the participants and invited speakers to address the public.Presentations were given by:
- Paweł Szeremet - Centre for Economic Initiatives at the Marshal's Office of the West Pomerania region,
- Jarosław Trybuchowicz - CEO of Orlen Neptun I,
- Oliwia Mróz-Malik - Polish Wind Energy Association,
- Jakub Budzyński - Polish Offshore Wind Energy Society,
- Artur Bejger - MUS Vice-Rector for Science,
- Arkadiusz Tomczak - MUS Vice-Rector for Maritime Affairs.
- Educational - new technologies in the offshore industry presented by companies which participated in the Conference.
- Business - MUS's potential (including laboratories) in cooperation with the business sector was highlighted.
- People and the Environment - session focused on the current state of MUS partnerships with industry and local governments, and opportunities for further development from a range of funding sources.
