By decision of the Rector, on 1 October 2025, a new unit was established at the Maritime University of Szczecin – the Faculty of Geoengineering and Environmental Protection.

Witold Kazimierski, DSc, Eng., MUS Professor, has been appointed as the Dean of the new faculty.

On 30 September, in the presence of MUS Vice-Rectors Agnieszka Deja, Izabela Bodus-Olkowska, Artur Bejger, and Chancellor Andrzej Durajczyk, the dean’s appointment was presented by MUS Rector Wojciech Ślączka. The Dean of the new faculty is an experienced researcher, educator, and specialist in geodesy and surveying, hydrography, and spatial information systems.

His academic and professional achievements include:

  • PhD (2008) and DSc degree (2017),
  • many years of experience at the university and in the maritime industry (including officer and offshore hydrographer positions),
  • over 80 scientific publications and co-authorship of three patents,
  • participation in international projects and internships, including the University of California, Berkeley,
  • serving as an expert and reviewer for research projects (NCBiR, Horizon 2020),
  • membership in the Committee of Geodesy of the Polish Academy of Sciences (2020–2024).

The sixth faculty of the university

The Faculty of Geoengineering and Environmental Protection (FGEP) comprises three departments, separated from the Faculty of Navigation:
  • Department of Geoinformatics and Remote Sensing
  • Department of Hydrography and Spatial Analysis
  • Department of Geodesy and Offshore Surveying.
Starting from 1st October 2026, the Department of Environmental Protection and Commodity Science from the Faculty of Maritime Engineering and Economics will also be transferred to the new Faculty of Geoengineering and Environmental Protection (FGEP).

Degree programs

The Faculty’s educational offer will include the following programs:
  • Geodesy and Cartography (Bachelor’s degree – Engeneer)
  • Geoinformatics (Master’s degree – MSc)
  • Hydrography (Master’s degree – MSc).
The establishment of the Faculty of Geoengineering and Environmental Protection at MUS responds to the growing importance of geospatial data, modern measurement technologies, and environmental issues in the global economy. The newly established faculty will play a key role in educating highly qualified graduates and conducting interdisciplinary scientific research.
