Faculty of Computer Science and Telecommunications Scientific research
Scientific research at the Faculty is aimed at developing and using technical informatics and telecommunications tools in engineering and technical sciences.
Leading research themes at the Department of Computer Science include the construction of decision support systems and autonomous systems, algorithms and methods of image processing, practical use of methods and tools of artificial intelligence and parallel programming in technical systems, including maritime transport .
Major national and international research projects, in which the Faculty has been involved:
• NAVDEC – navigational decision support system on a sea-going ship,
• ESABALT – system of ‘Enhanced Situational Awareness to Improve Maritime Safety in the Baltic’,
• AVAL – technology of building an autonomous ship working with unmanned aerial vehicle for collision avoidance,
• TranStat – intelligent system of producing road and sea transport statistics, using large volumes of data, for national transport policy making,
• PROMETHEAS – promotion of mental health at sea by diagnostics and elimination of stress-inducing situations.
• OptimalVessel – development of a fleet operations center with failure and navigational abuse detection system
