- Quality indicators of water used on ships; methodology and chemistry of determination, regulations, operational importance; expressing the values of indicators in various units used in practice.
- Impact of water pollution on equipment operation; sediments and boiler scale, corrosion, foaming, methods and chemicals used for technical water treatment.

- Lubricating oils; types, application, classification, basic performance parameters, oil additives. Environmentally acceptable lubricants.
- Grease; composition, types, characteristics and classification; basic performance parameters, additives and application.
- Safe work practice – handling petroleum. Criteria for the classification of hazardous substances, pictograms, safety data sheets.
